A man identified as ‘Doctor’ has allegedly stabbed his female friend, ‘Ima’, to death in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following an allegation that she was cheating on him.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Okereke Street, in the Mile 2 Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, causing panic among residents.

People in the neighborhood told Daily Trust that the man accused his lover of cheating, which led to a heated altercation.

During the argument, he allegedly used a knife to stab her to death.

The caretaker of the compound, upon noticing what had happened, quickly went to the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2 Diobu to make a formal complaint. This led to the arrest of the suspect.

A crowd of sympathizers gathered at the police station on Monday morning after the deceased’s body was brought there.

Our correspondent gathered that the police have since deposited the body at an undisclosed mortuary in Port Harcourt.

Reacting to the incident, the National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, said he also noticed the unusual gathering at the Azikiwe Police Station. He called on the police to ensure justice is served.

“This morning, while I was walking along Illabouchi Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, I saw a massive crowd at the Azikiwe Police Division and I inquired what had happened,” Wiro said. “I was made to understand that the police arrested a man, simply identified as ‘Doctor,’ for allegedly killing his female lover on Okereke Street, Mile 2 Diobu. While we were there, the corpse of the lady was taken to an undisclosed mortuary while the suspect was detained.”

Wiro urged the police to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation to ensure justice. He also used the opportunity to advise young people on relationships, stating, “Toxic relationships are not something you should endure. People should walk away from toxic relationships. There is no relationship that is more important than your life. You cannot be in a toxic relationship at the expense of your life.”

The police spokesperson in the state, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, could not be reached for comment, as she did not pick up her calls or respond to a text message sent to her.
