The police in Kwara State have arrested a former staff of FEMDAK Hotel in Ilorin, Yusuf Ibrahim, for allegedly strangling the receptionist of the hotel, Opeyemi Bello, to death on November 16, 2025.

It was learnt that the hotel’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Femi Akinyele, saw several missed calls from the hotel’s official line and that when he called back, a man picked the call and told him not to call again.

Alarmed by the strange response, Akinyele rushed to the hotel, where he met the receptionist, Ms Yemi, lying unconscious on the floor with signs that she had been strangled. The victim was taken to the hospital where a doctor confirmed her dead.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, at the weekend, said that following discreet intelligence gathering, operatives arrested one 26-year-old Ibrahim, a former staff of the hotel.

He said police investigation revealed that the suspect scaled the fence of the facility at night with the intention of robbing, adding that, “When the deceased spotted him and raised an alarm, he strangled her and fled with her mobile phone. The suspect was later tracked down and arrested.

He confessed to the crime during interrogation and remains in custody. But he will be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing procedures.”
