A 35-year-old man, Oluwafemi Sunday, has been charged before an Akure magistrate court, Ondo State, with having unlawful carnal knowledge of a nine-year-old girl.
Sunday, who was brought before Magistrate Ruth Olumilua, was alleged to have molested the girl on November 24, 2019 at Olope Street, Ijoka, Akure.
The prosecutor, Inspector Mart Olowofeso, prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the state’s Ministry of Justice.
Sunday’s counsel, John Adewole, objected to the remand application and prayed the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms.
Olumilua held that having gone through the case file, there was no probable cause to remand the defendant in prison.
She, therefore, withdrew the application for remand of the defendant and granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till December 30, 2019.
