A 66-year-old man, Tirimisiyu Lamidi, was on Monday docked in an Oyo Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Iyaganku area of Ibadan for allegedly poisoning a cow belonging to another man.

Lamidi, whose address was not provided, was charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and cruelty to animals. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 30, 2025, at about 5:30 pm at Atoda village, Ido, Ibadan.

Tellang said the defendant killed a female cow worth N2 million, belonging to one Muhammed Isiaka.

He explained that the defendant injected a poisonous substance into cow feed and placed it along the animal’s route and that after the cow consumed the feed, it died.

The prosecutor noted that the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 249(d) and 495(f) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The magistrate, Mrs. Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until February 5, 2026, for hearing. (NAN)
