Man arraigned for possession of dagger

A middle-aged man, Ali Abdullahi of Darmanawa quarters, Kano, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Gyadi-Gyadi over alleged illegal possession of a dangerous weapon.

Abdullahi was charged to court for one-count charge of illegal possession of a dagger knife, an offense contrary to Section 310 of the Penal Code.

According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the accused was arrested on Monday, April 30, 2018 by members of Darmanawa area vigilante group with a dagger in his possession.

“Abdullahi, failed to give a satisfactory account for handling the knife and therefore the vigilante group handed him over to the police for further investigation. After investigation, the police charged the
accused to court for contradicting Section 310 of the penal code,” the charge sheet indicated.

When the charge sheet was read to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty to the offense.
The presiding judge, Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties, one of whom must be a ward head.

However, the accused could not meet up with his bail conditions as one of the sureties refused to stand in for him, therefore, he was remanded in prison custody.

The case was adjourned to July 25, 2018 for further hearing.
