Man arraigned over N2.6m theft

The Lagos State police command has arraigned a 51-year-old man, Hyginus Ogbonna Onwujialiri, before an Ikeja magistrate’s court for allegedly stealing the sum of N2.6m, property of one Mr Obed Aika.

 Onwujialiri was arraigned yesterday before Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa on a two-count charge bordering on theft.

 According to police prosecutor, Inspector Peter Nwangwu, the suspect, on March 9, 2018, used his account number 3031001384 at Skye Bank and account number 0000384632 at Access Bank to obtain the said sum of money from the victim.

 Nwangwu told the court that the suspect pretended to have cleared a 20ft container containing four cars, a representation the prosecutor said the accused knew was false.

 He further informed the court that the suspect committed the alleged offence between March 9, 2018 and April 6, 2018 at 14 Jasper Ike, Lekki, Lagos.

 Onwujialiri pleaded not guilty to the charges.

 Aje-Afunwa granted the accused bail in the sum of N600,000, with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned the case till July 4, 2018.
