The police in Jigawa State have arrested one Mamman Rabi’u Badaru, who allegedly killed his wife after a misunderstanding while they were drinking tea two years ago.

Parading the suspect at the state police command, yesterday, the Commissioner of Police, Bala Zama Senchi, said the suspect murdered the deceased, Lamura Rabi’u, 22, and told her parents that he did not know of her whereabouts, claiming she disappeared from his house.

Senchi, further stated that after informing the parents of the deceased of her disappearance, neither the suspect nor the parents of late Lamura reported the case of her missing to the police until sometime last week, when a younger brother to the deceased discovered her corpse that was buried in a shallow grave.

According to him, the younger brother of the deceased stumbled over the grave while in the bush rearing cattle. He said “When he saw part of a cloth that was washed out by rain, he dug further out of curiosity to see what was underneath and that he identified the cloth as that of his missing sister.” Senchi said the suspect was arrested in the house of a native doctor, whom he went to see for protection from being arrested by the police. He said the suspects had since confessed to the crime saying, he used hoe to kill her while on her way to their house after they had a minor squabble. 

Speaking to Daily Trust, the suspect said, “We were drinking tea which she refused to take and somehow she tried to snatch the one in my hand, in the process the cup fell and the tea poured down. I grew annoyed over the attitude and hit her.”
