Man arrested for alleged murder over bottle of beer

A 23-year-old man, Taiwo Olatokunbo, is being detained at the Homicide Section of the Ogun State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for allegedly stabbing a person to death during a brawl said to have arisen over a bottle of beer.

Daily Trust gathered that the deceased, Christian Williams, had entered into a heated argument with the suspect over who would pay the bill for the beer.

The case was first reported at the Igbeba police division by one Temitope Adedayo, who the police claimed to be the owner of the beer parlour located at No. 4, Ijagun Roadm, Ijebu Ode, where the incident took place.

According to the police, Adedayo reported that at about 3pm on October 20, 2018, the suspect came to buy a bottle of beer worth N200 but refused to pay.

She claimed that it led to an argument between her and the suspect consequent upon which the deceased, who was her customer, intervened and asked the suspect to pay for the beer he had bought.

The police said that the woman said the intervention of the deceased infuriated the suspect, who then allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed the victim with it.

Upon the report, the acting Divisional Police Officer of the Igbeba Division, Superintendent Onah Lawrence, led his men to the scene where Olatokunbo was promptly arrested.

The police said that the victim was quickly rushed to the State Hospital, Ijebu Ode, for medical attention but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.
