The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has apprehended a 26-year-old suspect allegedly responsible for the production and distribution of adulterated engine oil across Nigeria.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday. He noted that the case followed a written petition to the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the command, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, alleging the illegal adulteration of a specific engine oil brand.

“The matter was promptly referred to the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit for discreet investigation,” Afolayan said. “A team of detectives from the unit apprehended the suspect, who confessed to masterminding the production and importation of adulterated engine oil products from China before distributing them across multiple states.”

During intelligence-led raids, officers recovered 280 gallons of the adulterated oil from various locations in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, and Ogun states.

Afolayan stated that the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) confirmed the seized products failed to meet Nigerian Industrial Standards, effectively corroborating the allegations.
