Man arrested for allegedly defiling 6-year-old in FCT

A trader, Ibrahim Saleh, has been arrested by vigilantes over allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in the New Kutunku area of Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A vigilante, Sani Hussaini, said the incident occurred on Tuesday around 9am when the victim was sent on an errand to a shop.

He alleged that the suspect, a provision seller, lured the girl into his shop with a biscuit and N200 and assaulted her.

He further said, “When the mother, who had sent her to buy sugar, saw the way the girl was crying and struggling to walk, raised the alarm. Neighbors gathered, and it was soon discovered that the provision seller had defiled her.’’

He added that the parents and neighbours confronted the trader at his shop, and that the suspect denied the allegation, claiming he only gave her biscuit and N200 without touching her.

He further said, “Unconvinced by his explanation, the neighbours summoned the vigilantes, who ordered the man to close his shop. The vigilantes took the girl to a private clinic where doctors confirmed that she had been penetrated.

‘’Following the medical confirmation, some youths attempted to lynch the suspect but he was rescued by elders, handed over to us and we then handed him over to the police.’’

A police source at the Gwagwalada Division, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest.
