Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have arrested one Michael Ogungbemi for the alleged defilement of his underaged stepdaughter and her friend in Edo State.
The incident reportedly took place in the Ogbegun community, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect is alleged to have repeatedly defiled his 13-year-old stepdaughter and her friend before his eventual arrest by the Corps.
The suspect reportedly began abusing his stepdaughter when she was in Junior Secondary School, allegedly using threats of “consequences” to keep her from revealing the ordeal to anyone.
It was further alleged that after defiling his stepdaughter, the suspect encouraged her to bring her friend—a JSS1 student—to the house.
He then reportedly defiled the friend after three separate attempts.
He added that the matter came to light when the JSS1 student suddenly fell ill at school. Her teacher noticed her condition and alerted her parents, who rushed her to the hospital for medical treatment.
A source stated that upon medical examination, it was discovered that the girl had contracted a bacterial infection. Under pressure, the minor eventually disclosed that the suspect had been having “carnal knowledge” of both her and his own stepdaughter.
The parents immediately contacted the ESSC, leading to the suspect’s prompt arrest.
The suspect’s stepdaughter recounted that he would touch her inappropriately whenever her mother went to work.
She noted that he would often send her younger siblings on errands to buy balloons to get them out of the house before fondling her.
The suspect, who has reportedly confessed to the crime, blamed his actions on “the devil.”
The ESSC Deputy Commander, Richard Balogu, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect admitted to sleeping with the minors.
He added that the suspect was arrested following a tip-off and has since been handed over to the police for prosecution.
