A 35-year-old man, Malime Sunday Ejor, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his partner, Moshie Lucy Igu, in a farm settlement in Nwang Village, Ekajuk, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of March 28, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m., when the suspect allegedly attacked the victim at a farm where they had both gone.
Daily Trust learnt that the suspect reportedly dragged the victim to a nearby stream within the farm area, where he inflicted fatal machete wounds on her, leading to her death.
Police operatives, acting on a distress report, swiftly mobilised to the scene and apprehended the suspect. He was, however, rescued from a mob by angry youths who had gathered at the scene.
The suspect is currently in police custody, where he is being held as investigations continue.
Authorities said arrangements are being finalised to deposit the remains of the deceased at the General Hospital mortuary in Ogoja.
Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Further information reaching us on 30/03/2026 at about 1030hrs, said that women and youths from Nwang I & II and other parts of Ekajuk Clan, Ogoja, stormed our office at Area Command/Division, Ogoja, demanding the release of the murder suspect earlier transferred to SCID Calabar.
“The crowd turned violent, attacking officers and damaging a Hyundai vehicle and parts of the RRS building. Smoke canisters were deployed to disperse them, and eight (8) suspects were arrested.
“Situation is now under control. The suspects were later released to a community leader to douse tension.”
