The police in Ogun State have arrested a 42-year-old man, John Daniel, for assaulting and raping a 30-year-old lady in Ota.

The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was arrested after the victim lodged a complaint.

Oyeyemi said the victim told the police that she went in search of a shop to rent at about 6.pm and that when she met the suspect, he told her that he had a container kept in his care which she could use.

Oyeyemi further said the suspect asked the victim to follow him to where the container was, but that on getting to his house, he asked her to sit down while he called the owner of the container.

The police spokesman explained that, “The suspect locked the door and brought out a screwdriver and a bottle with which he threatened her and ordered her to undress, and thereafter beat her and raped her.

“Following her report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sango-Ota, Godwin Idehai, detailed detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the bottle and screwdriver recovered.”

Oyeyemi who said the victim was taken to a hospital, added that the suspect confessed to the crime and that he would be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
