A butcher was arrested on Friday for moving slaughtered goat into the FCT in an unhygienic condition.

Gideon Nde came in from neighbouring Nasarawa State on a motorcycle with the goat, which he concealed in a sack.

He was reportedly intercepted around AYA Roundabout by personnel of the Abuja Environmental Protection Agency (AEPB) in conjunction with men of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS).

An official of the AEPB, Victor Danso, while briefing journalists on the development, said Nde was arrested for moving butchered animals into Abuja, and also in an unhygienic condition, which is against the law.

He said mechanisms are being put in place to make sure every animal has been ascertained safe for consumption and processed in an accepted way, but lamented that some butchers go out of the territory and bring in already butchered ones.

Also, the motorcyclist engaged by the butcher was arrested for violating an order banning commercial motorcycles from operation in the city centre.
