The police in Katsina State have arrested one Kabir Iliyasu, 27, of Kaura Bugaje village, Jibia, for masterminding his own kidnap in order to extort money from his relation.

The spokesman of the state police command, DSP Gambo Isah, said Iliyasu connived with three others – Aminu Abdullahi, Abdullahi Bature and  Amina Idris, all of Rahamawa quarters, Katsina – to demand N1 million as ransom from his uncle.

He said the uncle, Mustapha Suleiman, reported at Central Police Station, Katsina, that his nephew Iliyasu has been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding for ransom.

A sting operation led to the arrest of those mentioned after the so-called kidnappers asked the mediator to deposit the ransom inside an uncompleted building, he said.

He said the suspects confessed to the crime and told police that it was the victim, Kabir Iliyasu, himself that organised and masterminded his own kidnap because he needed money from his uncle.
