Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man, Bayegun Nathaniel, for the alleged abduction and killing of a 16-year-old girl in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area.

The victim, Adegbaaju Florence, was reportedly abducted last month in the Ogijo area of the state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the suspect was apprehended following intelligence-led operations.

He said the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime alone and admitted collecting a ransom of N500,000.

“Investigation indicates that the victim was later killed and her body disposed of in a river within the Ogijo area,” Babaseyi said.

He added that efforts were ongoing to recover the remains for forensic examination.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, expressed sympathy to the victim’s family and assured that justice would be served.

In a separate development, the command recovered a single-barrel gun and six live cartridges abandoned by a fleeing suspect during a stop-and-search operation.

Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the suspect.
