The police have arrested a 26-year-old man, Chizoba Ayogu, for allegedly attempting to strangle a commercial sex worker in an hotel room at Ajangbadi, suburb of Lagos.

 The police said that the suspect had contracted the victim, identified as Faith, to stay with him for the night on May 24, 2018. 

 According to the police, the suspect took the victim out for a drink before returning to Wellwood Hotel, Ajangbadi, with her.

 Our correspondent gathered that while the lady was sleeping, the suspect tied a rope around her neck and tried to strangle her, but for the timely arrival of staff of the hotel who heard her screaming for help.

 The suspect was then said to have escaped through the back door with the lady’s telephone and money.

 The Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who confirmed the incident, said that the police got a distress call from Wellwood Hotel around 2:00a.m.

 Edgal said that the duty officer that night at the Ilemba Hausa police division quickly went to the hotel where he met Faith,18, a commercial sex worker with severe injuries on her neck. 

 “The victim stated that about 0015 hours, Chizoba Ayogu, 26, of No. 7, Abdullahi Street, Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos, came to her hotel room. After sleeping with her, he brought out a rope, tied it around her neck and pulled her down. He also tried to suffocate her by blocking her mouth and nostrils with a pillow. She was, however, rescued by a staff of the hotel who heard noise in her room as she struggled for life.

 “The suspect was arrested and the rope with which he nearly killed the girl was recovered from him. He is yet to tell the police his motive for wanting to murder the victim,” the police chief said.
