A 29-year-old man, Zaiyanu Rufa’i and his friend, Mustapha Salihu, 19, have been arrested by the police in Gombe State for allegedly drugging and raping a 15-year-old girl (name withheld) in Dadin Kowa town of Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Obed Mary Malum, in a statement issued at the weekend, said the duo were arrested by the police and vigilante group, after the case was earlier reported at the Dadin Kowa Police Division by the girl’s parents.

 Malum said during police interrogation, the suspects confessed to have committed the offence. “Rufa’i has told the police that he got engaged to the girl some months ago to enable him have sexual intercourse with her.

“However, his friend showed interest to also sleep with the girl, and knowing that she will not agree, he invited her and after having sex as usual, he drugged her and invited the friend who also had carnal knowledge of her, they later abandoned her at a bush,” DSP Malum said.

She said the girl was discovered and rushed to the hospital by passersby, adding that a blood stained wrapper of the girl was discovered at the scene of the incident.

She said all the suspects will be arraigned before the court after investigation is completed.
