Police have arrested a man identified as Elijah Mathew for allegedly being in possession of two bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

A police source, who preferred anonymity, told our reporter by telephone on Saturday that the suspect, a resident of Sabon Kayada in Gurara LGA of Niger State, was arrested on Thursday following a tip-off.

The source said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he supplies Indian hemp to customers around Sabon Kayada and some areas within the Suleja metropolis.

He also confessed to supplying the Indian hemp to a friend, Moses Obi, a resident of Make, in Suleja, who then wraps and sells it in pieces to buyers in the area.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, ASP Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed the arrest. Abiodun stated that the suspect is currently under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further action.
