Police in Nasarawa State have arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly dealing in counterfeit naira notes at Lafia cattle market.
The suspect, Mamuda Hassan of Anchor Zaria, Kaduna State, was apprehended by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, following credible intelligence.
Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, said Hassan was caught “actively trading in fake ₦1,000 denomination notes” at the market.
The command said, “During interrogation, Hassan confessed that the counterfeit notes were supplied to him by an accomplice residing in Mararaba Akunza, Lafia.”

Nansel said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the accomplice, who was still at large.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, urged traders, small business owners, fuel station attendants, POS operators, and motor park workers to be vigilant during daily transactions.
He advised the public to watch for signs of counterfeit currency, including poor print quality, smaller size, duplicated serial numbers, and absence of visible security features.
Mohammed called on residents to promptly report anyone found in possession of or attempting to circulate suspected fake currency to the nearest police station.
Nansel said the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
