Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old man, Peter Alale, from Agbere community in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly being in possession of suspected human parts.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Musa Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to him, the suspect was apprehended with a broken white plate containing the suspected human parts.
Mohammed said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect claimed he found the items at the Sagbama Council Secretariat Junction, Mile 3, and was allegedly attempting to dispose of them in a nearby bush before he was arrested.
He added that the exhibits had been recovered and forwarded for medical examination and analysis to determine whether they were actually human parts.
Mohammed further stated that the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, CP Iyamah Daniel, had directed a thorough and immediate investigation into the incident.
He also urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified or sensational information capable of causing panic.
