A Wuse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has sentenced Somto Ezeobi to one week imprisonment for stealing a Toyota Sienna vehicle.
The magistrate, Sadiq Mohammed, sentenced Ezeobi without an option of fine and warned him to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.
The police charged Ezeobi with criminal conspiracy and theft, which he pleaded guilty to.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Donatus Abah, told the court that the complainant, Mr. Chukwudi Ghaly, managing director of the said hotel, petitioned the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, on Sept. 8.
Abah said that Ezeobi conspired with the hotel’s driver, Imaoihiemugh Ukuoma (now at large), and stole the hotel vehicle from the premises, valued at N14 million, sometime in July. (NAN)
He said they sold the vehicle at Zuba at the rate of N3 million and escaped until Ezeobi was traced and arrested.
The prosecution counsel further said that during police investigations, Ezeobi failed to give a satisfactory account of Ukuoma’s whereabouts or the money realized from the sale of the vehicle.
Abah, however, said that the vehicle had been recovered by the police.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
Ezeobi, however, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that it was his first time and he would never do it again. (NAN)
