A Chief Magistrate Court in Damaturu has sentenced a 35-year-old fire wood fetcher to five years imprisonment for impregnating his 12-year-old sister in-law.

Police prosecutor, Sgt Hayatu Musa had earlier told the court that the convict, Mohammed Baushe alias Gareji, of forestry area Damaturu lured the girl with N50 and had carnal knowledge of her severally as a result, she became pregnant.

“The convict, who lived in the same area with the girl, began abusing her sexually when she was under four years until she reached 12 years”, he said.

He said the father of the girl, Baba Ibrahim, reported the matter to the police.

When the FIR was read to Baushe,  he pleaded guilty as charged, but the presiding magistrate, Abubakar Lamba Maluri, ordered for more evidence to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

At the resumed hearing of the case on September 12, the Magistrate sentenced Baushe to five years imprisonment without option of fine.

“The protection of our society from moral decay is a moral obligation on us all and must be carried from cradle to the grave”, he said.
