A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, yesterday sentenced a 22-year-old man to six months imprisonment for stealing a car battery.
The judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, however, gave the convict, Mohammed Umar, an option to pay N20,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Umar of Dantata Estate, Kubwa, Abuja, was convicted on charges bordering on criminal trespass and theft. He had admitted committing the offences.
The prosecutor, John Okpa, had told the court that one Charles Kelvin of Tipper Garage, Kubwa, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Aug. 2.
He said Umar on July 14 criminally trespassed into a workshop at Tipper Garage and stole the complainant’s car battery valued at N25,000.
Okpa said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
