Man bags 6 months imprisonment for battery theft

A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, yesterday sentenced a 22-year-old man to six months imprisonment for stealing a car battery.

The judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, however, gave the convict, Mohammed Umar, an option to pay N20,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.‎

Umar of Dantata Estate, Kubwa, Abuja, was convicted on charges bordering on criminal trespass and theft.‎ He had admitted committing the offences.

The prosecutor, John Okpa, had told the court that ‎one Charles Kelvin of Tipper Garage, Kubwa, reported the matter ‎at the Kubwa Police Station on Aug. 2.

He said Umar on July 14 criminally trespassed into a workshop at Tipper Garage and stole the complainant’s car battery valued at N25,000‎.

Okpa said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
