The Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State, has sentenced 20-year-old Muhammad Abdu Danbaffa of Bilbiya village to seven years in prison for cutting off his friend’s hand.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Umar, said on January 11, 2024, one Usman Umar reported to the state CID Division that “Muhammad Abdu cut off his right-hand palm due to some misunderstanding you had on December 12, 2023, that led to a fight.”
According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to Section 221 of the Borno State penal code law.
When the FIR was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty as charged.

In his judgement, the presiding magistrate, Alhaji Saleh Isa, fined the defendant, Muhammed Danbaffa, N100,000 as compensation to the victim or an option of seven years imprisonment.
