Man bags life jail for raping JSS3 student in Ekiti

An Ekiti State high court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Shola Oguntuase, to life imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old JSS 3 student.

In her statement to the police, the victim said, “I am a JSS 3 student. I was sleeping in our room that evening. I spread cover cloth on my body and suddenly I saw Oga Shola (Shola) removing the cover cloth on my body and lying on me. When I was struggling to stand up and shout, he covered my mouth and nose with the cloth. I became weak when he started hitting me on the head. He removed my pant and had sexual intercourse with me. He used a white handkerchief to clean my vagina and left. I was crying till my mother arrived and I explained what happened to her.”

The prosecutor, Marcus Olowoyo, called four witnesses and tendered the defendant’s statement, the victim’s statement and a medical report as exhibits.

The accused was represented by his counsel, Rotimi Adabembe, who called no witness.

Justice Adekunle Adeleye, in his ruling, said, “From the entire circumstances I have no doubt that the prosecution established beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant raped the victim.”

He, therefore, sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment.
