The deceased, according to information at the disposal of Oodua Trust, was sent on errand and given N50 by the suspect, to buy pure water for him but instead, the deceased, simply identified as Usman Yaya converted the money into personal use. H e was reported to have made a U-turn to the Kiosk of a nearby Indian hemp seller and bought a wrap of the illicit drug instead.

“I was busy doing some other things when I suddenly remembered that I sent Usman on an errand to buy pure water for us all to drink, and to my utter surprise, he returned with the hemp. I was angry at this point and demanded for explanation from him, however, what I got in return was too unsavoury to stomach. He was ready to engage me in a fight, after raining abuses and insults on me, I responded by going all out for him but he was so jelly-livered that he took to his heels.

The suspect added that it was in the process of running away that the deceased fell inside a gutter, got wounded and started bleeding profusely from his heels.

However, police version of the murder case has it that the 35-year-old suspect intentionally stabbed his friend to death during a minor misunderstanding between the them. An allegation which the suspect vehemently denied saying that he did not even lift a hand against his friend, whom he had graciously accommodated and fed over the years.

“I am a very kind-hearted person and that is why about six of my friends, whom are unemployed, including the deceased, are putting up in my place. I feed and house them all from the meagre salary I earn”, he stated.

The suspect who wass still in shock over the mysterious death of his life-long friend of about 10 years, maintained that the whole experience is still like a dream to him.

The state police image maker, Superintendent Frank Mba revealed to our reporter that the result of the autopsy conducted on the deceased revealed that he died through the injury he sustained while fighting with his friend. And that the police have been able to establish a primal facie case about the incident and the law will take its course.

Mba said, “The propensity for violence is high due to the use of illicit drugs and it could have given rise to the unfortunate scenario that resulted into the untimely death of the deceased.”
