Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a man, Benjamin Ezeukwe (28), who is alleged to be the mastermind behind the Dangote Cement price slash scam that recently rocked the cement industry.
The suspect allegedly circulated a slash in the price of a bag of Dangote Cement with which he fleeced hundreds of people of several millions of naira.
It was learnt that the suspect was arrested on October 19, 2023, in the Rumuolumeni area in Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State after weeks of investigation.
Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said found in his possession were one Tecno phone, one iPhone, three SIM cards, including one with 08039691980, which the suspect allegedly used for the scam and a Toyota Avalon.
Hundeyin explained that the suspect in September, 2023, created a bogus but convincing online advert purportedly by Dangote Cement claiming a massive price slash.
He said, “Investigation has so far revealed that the suspect has perpetrated several other similar scams. Suspect has since been arraigned.”
