Six writers are now in the race to win the 2016 Man Booker Prize for Fiction worth £50, 000, beating big names like JM Coetzee, AL Kennedy and Pulitzer winner Elizabeth Strout.
The shortlist includes novelist, playwright and poet Deborah Levy, shortlisted for her novel ‘Hot Milk’, Paul Beatty for ‘The Sellout’, Graeme Macrae burnet for ‘His Bloody Project’, Ottessa Moshfegh for ‘Eileen’, David Szalay for ‘All That Man is’, and Madeleine Thien for ‘Do Not Say We have Nothing’.
Among those shortlisted, Levy has previously been shortlisted for the prize in 2012, for her novel ‘Swimming Home’. The nominated books deal with subjects including crime and humour. Beatty’s work has been described in a review as a galvanising satire of post-racial America, as well as a daring work that subverts harmful cultural assumptions.  
The Man Booker Prize for Fiction is an international literary prize awarded each year for the best novel originally written in English and published in the United Kingdom. Marlon James was last year’s winner for his novel, ‘A Brief History of Seven Killings’ and Nigeria’s Ben Okri won the prize in 1991 for his novel ‘The Famished Road’.
