Operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested one Ovie Everest, from Ughelli in Delta state while he was trying to purchase firearm which he claimed he wanted to use in killing a member of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) who had killed his brother.
The police spokesman in the state, SP Asinim Butswat, said in a statement on Thursday that the 26-year-old suspected robber who resides in Ughelli claimed that he came to Yenagoa to purchase a firearm to kill a member of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squat (SARS) in his area.
He said N200,000 meant for the purchase of the firearm was recovered from the suspect.
He said: “Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping unit in a stint operation arrested one Ovie Everest ‘m’ 26 years, a native of Ekugbo Community, Ughelli, Delta State, for planning to procure a firearm.
“The suspect came to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State to buy a Barretta Pistol, which he claimed he will use to kill a member of the disbanded SARS who allegedly killed his brother at Ugheli.
Police are investigating.
