The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 38-year-old man, Ezem Emmanuel, before an Ejigbo Chief Magistrate Court, for allegedly stealing perfume in a supermarket in the state.
The police said the accused was seen on a close circuit camera removing the perfume from one of the shelves and stuffing it into his bag.
The police prosecutor, Simeon Njue, told the court that the incident happened at a supermarket in Igando area of Lagos.
He said aside the perfume, the accused also stole a wristwatch and a phone valued at N46,000, all property of the supermarket.
“My Lord, the accused reportedly picked the items, hid them on his body and tried to escape but was stopped by one of the security man on duty, who identified him as the person seen in the CCTV footage shoplifting.
“He was subsequently handed over to the police at Igando Division, where he reportedly admitted to the theft. All the items stolen were recovered,” he added.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs A. S. Okubule, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri pending when he would perfect his bail conditions and the matter was adjourned till January 20, 2021.
