Man charged with alleged theft of N1.3m petrol in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned 49-year-old Saheed Rasaki before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged theft.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others, who remain at large, conspired to steal 1,000 litres of petrol valued at N1,300,000, property of one Oso Babatunde.

The incident allegedly occurred in Ado-Ekiti on March 23, 2026.

ASP Oriyomi further stated that the defendant and his accomplices conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by converting the fuel to their own use.

He noted that the offences are punishable under Sections 421, 301, and 181(d) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister O.G. Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the magistrate that the defendant would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail in the sum of ₦150,000 with two sureties in like sum.
