Man charged with defrauding lawyer of N1.1m

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned 55-year-old Fadumila Ayodele before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged felony, specifically obtaining money under false pretenses.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that on November 3, 2025, at about 10am in Ado-Ekiti, the defendant and others still at large conspired with the intent to defraud and obtain the sum of N1,150,000 from one Barrister Timmy Omotosho.

Inspector Oriyomi stated that the offence is punishable under Sections 421 and 329 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State (2021).

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to admit his client to bail.

The Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The court also directed the defendant to pay the [restitution/disputed] money within two weeks.

The was adjourned until January 30, for hearing.
