The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned 50-year-old Faith Adeniyi before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over the alleged poisoning of four cartons of garri and the theft of property worth over N1.2 million.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 6, 2025, at about 12pm at No. 19, Olu Akinyede Street, GRA, Ado-Ekiti.
He is accused of stealing seven cartons of Mavris chemicals valued at N658,000 and four cartons of maize-blended garri valued at N44,000, all property of Dr. Temitope Aroge.
Inspector Oriyomi further alleged that the defendant maliciously administered poison into four cartons of cassava flakes (garri) produced by Dr. Aroge.
The defendant reportedly threatened to sell the contaminated products to the public for consumption, an act intended to cause widespread harm.
The prosecutor added that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
Furthermore, the defendant was accused of stealing two Sharp air conditioners valued at N500,000 in April 2024, belonging to one Femi Asefon.
According to Inspector Oriyomi, the offences are punishable under Sections 302, 253, and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the magistrate that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until February 26 for hearing.
