A 33-year-old man, Afolabi Samuel, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly possessing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant was found with the illicit drugs on August 2 at about 4.30pm in the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District. Inspector Oriyomi added that the offence is punishable under Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act LFN, 2004.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Stephen Alabi, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that his client would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until September 16 for hearing.
