Man charged with theft of economic trees worth N11m in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned 40-year-old Ajulo Oluwagbenga before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court for alleged felony and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that on January 20, 2026, at about 1pm in Ise-Ekiti, the defendant and others currently at large, stole economic trees valued at N7,000,000, belonging to one Akinyemi Kehinde.
Inspector Oriyomi further alleged that the defendant and his accomplices maliciously damaged cocoa, kola nut, and palm trees valued at N4,000,000, and unlawfully entered a parcel of land in the possession of the complainant.
The prosecutor noted that the alleged offences are punishable under Sections 421, 65, 302(1)(a), and 363(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State (2021).
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Timmy Omotosho, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the magistrate that the defendant would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until February 19, for hearing.
