Man charged with unlawful assault, stealing

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned one Segun Omoboriola (38) before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of unlawful assault and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 14 at about 11pm at Ayedun Quarters, Nova Road, Ado-Ekiti. 

Adeniyi alleged that the defendant unlawfully assaulted one Emmanuel Alajide with an iron saw blade, causing a severe injury to the left side of his face.

The prosecutor further alleged that on the same date and at the same location, the defendant stole a wooden savings box (commonly known as a kolo) containing N450,000, belonging to Alajide.

The prosecutor noted that the offences are punishable under Sections 186 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Adeyinka Okpaleke, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the magistrate that the defendant would not jump bail if released.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate stipulated that the sureties must be civil servants on Grade Level 12 or above.

The case was adjourned until March 26, for a formal hearing.
