Man Dies After Jumping Into Well in Kwara

A 31-year-old man, simply identified as Abdullateef, was recovered dead on Sunday after jumping into a domestic well.

The incident occurred in the Bolarinwa Compound, Centre Igboro area of Ilorin, Kwara State and threw the neighbourhood into shock in the early hours of the day.

The tragedy was said to have occurred around 4am when residents were still indoors.

Sources in the area said Abdullateef had previously attempted to jump into the same well but was unsuccessful.

According to them, those earlier attempts raised concerns among some residents before the situation eventually turned fatal on Sunday.

Officials of the Kwara State Fire Service were later alerted to the incident and deployed a rescue team to the location.

The team immediately initiated a recovery operation to retrieve the victim from the domestic well.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the fire service, Hakeem Adekunle, said the firefighters carried out the operation professionally to ensure the body was safely recovered from the depth of the well.

He explained that the remains of Abdullateef were handed over to the head of the family, Alhaji Bolarinwa, in line with established procedures.

“Firefighters conducted a professional recovery operation, and his lifeless body was retrieved from the well and subsequently handed over to the head of the family, Alhaji Bolarinwa,” Adekunle said.
