An Ondo magistrate court in Ondo State has remanded a 62-year-old man, Chief Frederick Fadoju, at the Segede Correctional Centre, Ondo, for allegedly failing to produce the accused person he stood surety for.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Charles Olagbayi, told the court that Fadoju and some other persons still at large had stood as surety in the sum of N500,000 for an accused person, Julius Akinnagbe, on April 30, 2019 at Chief Magistrate Court 2, Oka, Ondo, in charge No. MOD/196c/2018.

Olagbayi further said that since Akinnagbe could not be found, the surety was brought to the court since he had promised to produce the defendant any time the latter was needed by the court until the case against him was finally dealt with.

Fadoju, however, failed when he was required to do so.

The defendant was told to be ready to pay the amount in the said charge and liable to forfeit the bond under Section 166(4) of the Administrative Criminal Justice Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2015. Fadoju, who did not have any legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the charge the police levelled against him.

Magistrate Odenusi Fadeyi, therefore, remanded him at the correctional centre and adjourned the case till March 12, 2020 for bail consideration.
