A resident of Kaniyel area of Gombe metropolis has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Tumfure Quarters for allegedly raping his 8-year-old daughter.
The accused person, Buhari Mohammed, 27, was accused of dragging his daughter (name withheld) to his room sometimes in August and allegedly had carnal knowledge of her.
Mohammed, a teacher, was reported to the police by the girl’s grandmother, who observed changes in the way she walked after the incident, police prosecutor said.
The court further heard that the accused had separated with the mother of the victim, and now shares same room with the girl and three of her siblings.
The accused person was charged with rape and incest, offenses that contravened Sections 282 and 390 of the Penal Code Law, Inspector Habibu Danjuma told the court.
The accused person, however, denied the content of the FIR, when asked by the court if the information was true.
The prosecutor, therefore, applied for a new date to enable the police conclude investigation.
The Chief Magistrate Japhet Maida granted the application and adjourned the case to September 18 for further mention. He ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
