A 42-year-old man, Olatunji Tope, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrates’ court over alleged assault.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, told the court yesterday that the defendant committed the offence on January 8 at about 1:30pm at Okesha Area in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the defendant allegedly assaulted one Olakanmi Olasehinde by stabbing him a with car key on his head and jaw, which resulted in serious injury.
He said the offence contravened Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, while his counsel, Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump it.
The chief magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till January 31, for hearing.
