A 31-year-old man, Dominic Atunde, has been docked before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court over alleged abduction and fraud.
The prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the court yesterday that the defendant and others, at large, committed the offence in Ado-Ekiti, Ibadan and Lagos.
Okunade alleged that they conspired and abducted Fatima Osupa Adini.
He also alleged that they fraudulently obtained the sum of N250,000 from Alhaji Osupa Adini.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 516, 419 and 361 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Okunade told the court that the defendant told the parents of the lady that he would enroll her in his school, but later relocated to Ibadan and took the lady along.
He said that later, the defendant called her daddy and demanded money with the pretext to defraud him for her upkeep.
The prosecutor added that the lady’s parents did not see their daughter, and when they asked the defendant about her whereabouts, he said he could not find her.
He told the court that the defendant was tracked by the Lagos State police and was brought to Ado-Ekiti.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His counsel, Mr. Sunday Balogun, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, ruled that since the defendant did not reside within the jurisdiction, and the abducted lady has not been found, bail cannot be granted.
Oluwasanmi later ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti.
He adjourned the case until February 9, 2021, for mention.
