A 40-year-old man, Adekunle Ben, was yesterday docked in a Karu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly intimidating and insulting one Alaji Agbanwu.

The defendant, who resides at Mines and Steel Cooperative Estate, Kurudu, Abuja, was arraigned on charges bordering on criminal intimidation and intentional insult, offences the defendant denied committing.

The prosecutor, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that a referral letter for investigation was received by the Chief Magistrate Court, Karu, Abuja on March 5.

He said as a result of the letter, police investigation was carried out.

“In the course of investigation, it was discovered that the defendant intimidated and intentionally insulted the nominal complainant, one Alaji Agbanwu, the chairman of the estate where the defendant resides,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences were contrary to and punishable under sections 397 and 399 of the Penal Code.

The magistrate, Oyeyipo Olakunle, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

He added that the surety must be a civil servant whose grade level should not be below GL9 and adjourned the case until Aug. 13 for hearing. (NAN)
