Man electrocuted tampering with transformer in Bayelsa

A yet-be-identified man has died after being electrocuted while allegedly trying to tamper with the electrical installation along Shepherd Vine Road, Biogbolo in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.

The deceased suspect, who is believed to be in his late 30s, was said to have tried to steal  an equipment attached to the transformer on Tuesday night, when power was suddenly restored to the line and was electrocuted.

Residents of the area wake up to see the deceased corpse and informed the law enforcement agents who have already evacuated the body to the The suspects were identified as Yusuf Garba, 19; Dauda Kolo, 22; and Rabiu Hamza, 20.

Residents of the area told our reporter that incident occurred when the victim allegedly tried to access components of the transformer, leading to a fatal electric shock on the spot.

They said that the area was briefly thrown into tension following the incident, as passersby gathered at the scene before security and utility officials were alerted.

Some part of Bayelsa State have started experiencing stable power supply as the 60 megawatts Independent Power Plant installed by the state government has started operations.

Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, DSP Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said preliminary investigation has commenced to identify the deceased and his motives at the electrical installation.
