The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested one Chinedu Aniekoku for allegedly chaining and detaining his sister, Mrs Grace Aniekoku, for one year and four months in Abuja.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
He said the arrest followed a distress call received on May 12, 2026, which prompted the immediate deployment of detectives from the Katampe Division to the scene.
According to him, operatives swiftly mobilised to the location after the report and forced their way into the apartment where the victim was allegedly being held.
He said the suspect had initially resisted arrest and denied the police access to the premises before the operatives eventually gained entry and discovered the victim chained and in a severely emaciated condition. “The victim was also found in an extremely poor sanitary condition, having been confined for a prolonged period under inhumane circumstances,” the Commissioner said.
He added that the suspect was immediately arrested while the victim was unchained and taken to hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
CP Mohammed said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly took the victim to an unknown location about two years earlier, adding that her confinement may have been intended to prevent her from seeking help or raising concerns about the whereabouts of her child.
The Commissioner further stated that efforts were ongoing to trace and rescue the missing child, while investigation into the incident continues.
He said the suspect would remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations, after which he would be charged to court.
