The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has arrested a suspect, one Akaninyene Udo, for allegedly using social media to instigate insecurity.
Akaninyene Udo, a resident in Akpautong, Esit Eket Local Government Area, was arrested for a viral social media message in which he threatened residents of Eket.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect known as “AK Philo” on social media, posted a message stating, “Eket get ready for us,” alongside the image of an armed bandit.
“The post generated fear and widespread concern among residents of Eket and its environs. Investigation into the matter has been concluded, and the suspect will soon be charged to court in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the PRO stated in a press release on Monday in Uyo.

John said investigation was ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have collaborated in the dissemination of the false and inciting content.

She warned members of the public against using social media platforms to circulate false, misleading, and provocative security-related messages aimed at creating fear, panic, and unnecessary apprehension among residents of the state.
