A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of 45-year-old Bashir Garuba at a Correctional Centre over allegations of burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that there is probable cause to remand the defendant, who is suspected of committing the offences at the Agric office in Ado-Ekiti.

Inspector Oriyomi pointed out that the offences—punishable under Sections 301 and 322 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021—were allegedly committed within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District on or about November 25, 2023.

The prosecutor stated that further investigation is required, adding that the duplicate case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. Consequently, he requested that the ex parte motion for remand be granted.

The defendant was represented by Barrister Adunni Olanipekun, but his plea was not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted the request, ordering the remand of the defendant. 

He adjourned the case until February 27, for mention.
