Mr. Qudri Abacha, a 44-year-old man, appeared before a Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The defendant, who is of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of assault and threat to life. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 16, at about 1:30 p.m., at Daleto Street, Mokola, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ayeni alleged that the defendant attacked Abdulwaliu Esuola, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), by strangling him by his uniform collar. 

He further alleged that the defendant had earlier threatened one Mrs. Funke Johnson with a broken bottle and sticks.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 356 and 323 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Court’s President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

 Akintayo stipulated that the sureties must be relatives of the defendant and must each provide evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State government.

The case was adjourned until April 6 for hearing. (NAN)
