Man in court for over-speeding, others

A middle aged man, Bayo Abraham, has been arraigned at an Akure magistrate Court for allegedly over-speeding and unlawful possession of solar battery.

According to the charge sheet, the defendant committed the offence on October 31, 2019 at about 2pm at Oba-Ile, an outskirt of Akure.

Abraham was alleged to have exceeded the speed limit expected on highways and also refused to stop at the check point.

The charges also read that Abraham and others at large were unlawfully in possession of seven solar batteries.

The offence is punishable under section 249 (b) cap 37 volume 1, criminal code law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.

Lawyer to the defendant, Mr. O.F. Saliu, did not oppose the prosecutor’s prayer, but urged the court to grant the defendant bail in most liberal term on the ground that his offence is bailable.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.R. Yakubu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety.

She stated that the surety must be resident within the court magisterial district while he must attach an affidavit of means with two passport photographs and show evidence of tax payment for the current year.

She adjourned the case till November 18, 2019 for hearing.
