Man in court for receiving stolen item in Ogun

A 45-year-old man, Nice Sonayan, was on Thursday brought before an Ota magistrates’ court in Ogun State for allegedly receiving stolen bamboo trees valued at N30,600.

The prosecutor, Insp E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and one other still at large committed on January 13, at Lavinda Estate Phase 1, Obasanjo Fence, Ota, conspired to receive 50 pieces of bamboo trees, knowing full well that they were stolen items.

He added that the stolen bamboo trees valued at N30,600 belonged to one Samuel Abiola.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, admitted the defendant to N200,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned to February 8. (NAN)

5 remanded over abduction, murder attempt

The police command in Benue State on Thursday charged five persons, Ushahemba Ikyulaga, Godwin Bee, Thomas Ikyumba, Donald Anande and Samuel Iorchir, before a Makurdi area court for alleged criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, abduction and terrorism.

The prosecutor, Insp Veronica Shaagee, told the court that on January 13, armed men numbering more than 30 and led by Ikyulaga invaded the residence of Mr Justine Kyado at Ikpayongo i Gwer-East LGA and abducted him and set fire on him with the intent to kill him before he was rescued by the police.

The prosecutor added that the victim sustained various degrees of injury and was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.

She alleged that during police investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime.

The court did not take the pleas of the defendants for want in jurisdiction and the Magistrate, Mr Vershima Hwande, ordered that they should be kept at the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre, Makurdi, and adjourned to March 7. (NAN)
